The incident happened late on the night of August 23rd during a gathering of people with pickup trucks and ATVs on the 201 Forest Service Road east of Okanagan Falls.

Coroner Elizabeth Noble says a dashboard camera on one of the trucks recorded the incident.

It showed Hardisty initially talking to a person on the driver’s side of the side-by-side ATV and trying to get in.

Noble reports: “The video showed Mr. Hardisty run around the front of the ATV and then he stood on the passenger side of the ATV (hanging on to the roll bar) when it began to move. The ATV made a left turn and flipped onto the passenger side.”

People lifted the machine off Hardisty and called 9-1-1.  At first he was talking but became unresponsive just before the ambulance arrived.

Hardisty died of multiple traumatic chest injuries.

Noble called his death an accident and made no recommendations to try to prevent further such incidents.
