Fire crews spent two hours extinguishing a fire on board a boat at a Vancouver marina Tuesday.
Reports of a boat explosion at the Fishermen’s Wharf near Granville Island came in shortly after 10 p.m. Brian Hutchinson, public information officer with Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, says crews responded to fire on board a 40-feet sailboat at the Burrard Civic Marina immediately.
It was a full first alarm assignment, including deployment of Fire Boat #5 and Fire Boat #3. Crews managed to prevent the heavily damaged boat from sinking and the City of Vancouver Environmental Services established a perimeter around the boat to prevent any contaminants entering into False Creek.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time and the investigation continues.
