SASKATOON – The cause of a fire that killed a woman and a child at a home in northern Saskatchewan has been determined. Ministry of Government Relations investigators say it was caused by a wood-burning stove.
The fire at the house on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation happened on Dec. 29, 2014. Donna Kay, 61, and Teegan Ahenakew, 10, were unable to get out and their remains were found on Dec. 31.

Two men managed to escape before the home was engulfed in flames.

The reserve is about 170 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
