REGINA – A pot left on the stove started a house fire that claimed the life of a baby boy and a woman in Regina Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene just east of downtown around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputy fire chief Gerard Kay says a passerby saw the flames, then pulled the victims from the home.
“Crews, along with EMS, worked on the two individuals and transported them to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.”
Regina fire reported 58-year-old Marilyn Tanner and 20-month-old infant Alonzo Tanner were the two who died in the fire.
Kay says the entire home was gutted.
“The entire roof system has collapsed. The area around the house is like a skating rink. There’s a lot of water and ice so it will be treacherous until city crews can do some sanding and salting.”
The fire flared up later in the morning, prompting crews to return to the scene.
