REGINA – A 56-year-old woman is facing an assault charge in relation to an incident at a seniors home on December 5.

We first heard about this allegation at the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home on December 12.

Officials from the facility contacted police and turned over a video recording of an alleged incident of neglect and assault of one of its residents. At the time, officials said they were extremely disappointed in the staff members involved, that they would be suspended immediately, and that Santa Maria would cooperate fully with a police investigation.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

CUPE Local 3967 is the union that represents workers at that facility. On December 16, it confirmed that two members from the home were suspended. The workers were either licensed practical nurses and/or continuing care aides.

An oversight committee was put in place by government shortly afterwards.
