TORONTO — Actor and comedian Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife after nearly two decades together.
Rock, 49, married Malaak Compton, 45, in 1996. The couple has daughters Lola, 12, and Zahra, 10.
“This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family,” said Rock’s lawyer, Robert S. Cohen, in a statement.
Rock’s wife told People in a statement she is focused on the well-being of her children.
“It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives.”
It was the first marriage for Rock, whose latest film Top Five is in cinemas now.
In 2007, Rock was accused by former actress Kali Bowyer of fathering her child, but DNA testing cleared him.
