Sci fi series ‘Dark Matter’ to be filmed in Toronto

A TV series based on the 'Dark Matter' comic books will be shot in Toronto in 2015.

TORONTO — Dark Matter, a new science fiction series for U.S. cable channel Syfy, will be shot in Toronto next year.

Thirteen episodes, based on the comic books by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, will be filmed from Jan. 7 to mid-May.

The show follows six crew members aboard a spacecraft who awaken with no memory of their mission or identities.

Dark Matter is described by a Syfy spokesperson as a “space opera that blends an intriguing premise with fast-paced suspense.”

Casting details have not been announced.

The series will be produced by Toronto’s Prodigy Pictures, which also makes Lost Girl.

Many of Syfy’s shows are made in Canada, including the made-in-Toronto series 12 Monkeys (debuting Jan. 16 in Canada on Showcase), Killjoys, The Expanse, Defiance and Bitten; the Vancouver-made Continuum; Montreal-shot Helix and Ascension; and Nova Scotia-filmed Haven.
