Saskatchewan Huskies already deep into off-season

SASKATOON – The 2014 Saskatchewan Huskies football season is officially a thing of the past. The page has been turned and the exit meetings have taken place.

“Almost to a man they all talked about enjoyable the season was,” head coach Brian Towriss said of his players. “We had a really great room this year, guys were highly motivated, they worked hard and I think the overwhelming response that we got was how much fun we had this year.”

The Huskies now turn their attention to university football’s “second season,” recruiting season. When it comes to who the Dogs are targeting in this year’s recruiting class, it’s the defensive side of the ball that Towriss is concentrating on most.

“All three levels of defence are a priority for us,” admits Towriss. “We think we’ve contacted the best people in this province and a few out of province.”

While the Huskies continue to work tirelessly on bringing in players that will help on the field, you can expect status quo on the sidelines in 2015. After many changes to the coaching staff this past summer, stability will be the name of the game this off-season.

“Right now we’re not anticipating any (changes). Lots of things could happen,” said Towriss.

“People could gets jobs other places and people could retire but we’ve had a couple meetings since the season (ended) and right now I think everyone is planning on being back.”

One difference to the coaching staff in 2015 will be an expanded role for Scott Flory, who was more and more involved in the team’s offence as last season went on, his first as a coach in the CIS.

As for Towriss, expect to see him back on the sidelines for a thirty-first season as head coach of the Huskies.
