Huskies defenceman Kendall McFaull stabilizing force on blue line

Watch above: Skate, study, sleep. Jack Haskins looks at how Saskatchewan Huskies defenceman Kendall McFaull finds balance between school and hockey.

SASKATOON – In a season that has been streaky, the Saskatchewan Huskies men’s hockey team has found a pillar of stability on defence. In his second year as a Huskie, Kendall McFaull has already proven himself to be a key addition to Saskatchewan’s roster.

This season McFaull has been named an alternate captain, which is rare for a sophomore.

“Since Kendall came to us from Moose Jaw, he’s been one of our team leaders,” said Huskies head coach Dave Adolph before practice on Wednesday. “(McFaull) and Matt Delahey are two of the most dominant defencemen in our league.”

The former Moose Jaw Warriors captain is in his second year of studying mechanical engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Between his academic and athletic responsibilities, McFaull is carrying a heavy work load.

“I spend a lot of time at school, but it’s no different than Holfy (Ryan Holfeld) in Law.” says McFaull. “You got to make time to hang out with the guys and be at the rink and stuff like that, but at the same time when it’s time to work, just get it done.”

The 2014-15 season has seen dramatic peaks and valleys for the Huskies. The Dogs rattled off four wins in a row to start the campaign, then suffered a brutal seven game losing streak.

The Huskies are now back on the upswing, winners of three straight, and right back in the playoff picture with a record of 8-8-0.

This week the Huskies will face off against the Mount Royal Cougars. It’s a big spot for the dogs, as a pair of wins would move the Huskies into a tie with the third place Mount Royal Cougars.
