WINNIPEG – Evander Kane’s stack is back.

The Winnipeg Jets forward posted a photo of him doing a shirtless push-up with seven bundles of cash on his back on Instagram Monday night. It’s not known when or where the picture was taken.

The photo has already caused a buzz on social media. Comments range from supportive to appalled. It’s also sparked an Internet meme some are calling #Kaning: photos of people doing pushups with their own wealth — or lack of it — on their backs.

At the Jets practice at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg Tuesday, Kane brushed off questions about the picture and the online response.

“It’s all in good fun,” Kane said. “That’s why people follow you on Instagram and social media — it’s to see what you’re doing or what you’re up to.”

He also dismissed those who linked his off-ice activities with his on-ice performance. Many feel Kane isn’t living up to his potential as a high-scoring forward.

“It’s nothing to do with my performance or anything else,” Kane said. He wouldn’t say when or where the picture was taken.

Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice indicated what matters to him is Kane’s fitness, not his social media antics.

“This is funny to some, not funny to others. Everyone will view it the way they view it. The bottom line is that Evander Kane comes to training camp every year in phenomenal shape,” he said.

This is not the first time Kane has stirred up controversy with his cash. The 23-year-old posted a picture during the 2012-13 lockout of him pretending to phone someone with a large wad of money. Kane later apologized for the picture but a few days ago reposted the photo to commemorate its three-year anniversary.
