Saskatchewan Party offers to boost insulin pump plan for diabetics

REGINA – Brad Wall is promising to give diabetics a boost if the Saskatchewan Party is re-elected Nov. 7.

Wall says the government would expand an insulin pump program to cover young adults up to age 25 and increase access to long-acting insulin.

The pump program currently covers children under age 17.

Wall says insulin pumps can help improve blood sugar control and provide a more flexible lifestyle for diabetics.

The premier says the two measures would cost $2.5 million.

The diabetes association says the province’s 75,000 diabetics have called for an expanded pump program and more specialists to deal with the disease.
