Snow shortage delays nordic skiing

VERNON – The lack of snow is delaying the nordic ski season near Vernon. Despite efforts to open for the weekend, the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre will remain closed.

“It was a tough decision but Sovereign Lake will open as soon as possible once they receive sufficient snow,” says Guy Paulsen, manager of the Silver Star Nordic facilities.

While the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre will remain closed, Silver Star’s nordic trails are opening as scheduled on Friday, November 21. The ski hill plans to open eight kilometres of trails and with snow in the forecast, Silver Star is confident more trails will open soon.

No word on when the alpine ski season will commence yet.
