In June 2014, Joe Fontana announced he’d step down as mayor following fraud-related convictions from his time as a federal cabinet minister. Prior to his resignation Fontana was convicted of fraud, forgery and breach of trust.

Fifteen candidates were in the running to be London’s next mayor. Advance turnout was up sharply in London compared to the 2010 election.
