Large oil leak at Lévis refinery

MONTREAL – 15,000 litres of crude oil were spilled at the Jean-Gaulin refinery in Lévis.

Urgence-Environnement is at the scene of the refinery, which is owned by Energie Valero and affiliated with Ultramar.

Quebec’s environment ministry issued a statement on Saturday saying, “the measures necessary to ensure the safety of people and protection of the environment are being implemented by the Ministry of Sustainable Development , Environment , and the Fight against Climate Change and its partners.”

The cause of the leak is not yet known.

The facility has a storage capacity of 8.7 millions barrels of petroleum.
