VANCOUVER – A TV show filmed in the Vancouver area is on hiatus after a security guard was killed on set.
An accident on the set of Falling Skies, a popular science-fiction series executive produced by Steven Spielberg, claimed the life of the guard on Monday night.
Scott McCloy of WorkSafeBC says a five-ton truck was parked on a slope, with its tailgate down to unload equipment, when the vehicle rolled backwards and pinned the worker to a tree.
McCloy says the unidentified worker, a member of Local 155 of the Teamsters, was taken to Royal Columbia Hospital in New Westminster, B.C., but died of his injuries.
The RCMP and B.C. coroner’s office are investigating but foul play is not suspected.
Turner Entertainment Networks says in a statement it is saddened by the tragic event and expresses its condolences to the security guard’s family.
Falling Skies tells the story of the aftermath of an alien attack on the world. The series stars Noah Wyle and Connor Jessup.
Production of the fifth and final season, which began on Monday, has been temporarily shut down. The series is scheduled to film in B.C. until late January.
