5 things to know about new ‘SNL’ regular Pete Davidson

Pete Davidson is the newest cast member on 'Saturday Night Live.'. Handout

TORONTO — Comedian Pete Davidson was named Monday the newest cast member on Saturday Night Live.

A 20-year-old college drop-out from Staten Island, New York, Davidson lost his firefighter father on 9/11.

He’s not the youngest SNL regular — Eddie Murphy was 19 when he joined in 1980.

The 40th season of SNL, which airs in Canada on Global, debuts Sept. 27 with guest host Chris Pratt and musical guest Ariana Grande.

Here are five more things to know about Davidson:

1. He has appeared in projects starring several SNL vets, including Jay Mohr, Jim Breuer, and Bill Hader. He also appears in an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a show starring former SNL regular Andy Samberg, as one of several teens visiting the police station while Gina (Chelsea Peretti) dances to Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful.”

Davidson’s act, when he was only 17 years old, had hints of homophobia. “Here’s something that should never happen in an all-boys school. Never get an erection because there’s no excuse for that, at all,” he said. Davidson also referred to Jon Cryer as “the gay dude from Two and a Half Men.”

4. He appears in School Dance, a comedy film written and directed by Nick Cannon, and was featured on Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out, an improv competition show.

5. He has talked about hooking up with a girl who tweeted him after seeing him on TV and then flew from Florida to New York and showed up at his door.
