Drop off locations for broken branches now open in Calgary

CALGARY- Clean up efforts continue across the city and if you have a pile of broken branches on your lawn, 33 drop off locations are now open.

The bins are usually used for leaves and pumpkins, but this September they’re pulling double duty.

Truckloads full of damaged trees can be found all over the city, the evidence of this week’s September snowstorm begins to pile up.

“I was going to be up at 6:30 sitting at one of the landfills with my paper and my coffee waiting my turn,” Cameron Hofstetter said. “I discovered this was a lot closer and a lot faster.”

Despite the success of the drop off locations, the city says the landfill is still the best bet.

The cleanup is also underway in regional parks. On Sunday, 1500 people will gather for the Terry Fox Run, one of the few lucky charities able to go ahead with its plans this weekend.

There’s been thousands of calls to 3-1-1 over the past week as well.

The damage has forced many to work around the wonder of mother nature, like Oleksiy and Oksana Golovchenko. They just got married Saturday and had to take wedding photos around damaged trees scattered across downtown parks.

“It might be a little too cold for taking the pictures in the park. It might be a little too much snow maybe but it all worked out,” Oksana Golovchenko said.

“We didn’t have a plan B, our plan B was hope,” Oleksiy Golovchenko said.
