‘He’s my baby’: Mother of missing NDG man pleads for public’s help

MONTREAL — Mother Janice Kustra said that her life has been turned upside down.

Her only child, 27-year-old Matthew Kustra, has gone missing.

The NDG resident has not been seen or heard from for close to a week.

“I can’t work, I can’t sleep, I haven’t eaten properly since last week,” 59-year-old Janice Kustra told Global News from her home in Vancouver.

Last Thursday night, Matthew Kustra was with friends at a pub on St-Jacques Street West.

At around 10 p.m., he left his table, telling friends he was meeting someone.

Kustra promised to be back in 20 minutes but he never returned.

On Tuesday, investigators seized security camera footage from PJ’s Pub.

“Investigators are asking for anyone’s help to locate him,” Cst. Francois Collard told Global News.

Matthew Kustra works in the construction industry. He’s the father of a three-year-old daughter, and lives with his girlfriend.

Janice Kustra described her son as a “clean-cut young man with no health problems or enemies.”

She did tell Global News that Matthew Kustra was the former co-owner of a bar called Liquid Lounge.

In May, a fire ripped through the popular Sherbrooke Street West hangout.

Arson was suspected.

Janice Kustra is worried her son’s life may be in danger.

“My mind doesn’t want to go there, but it does,” Janice Kustra said.

Matthew Kustra’s most distinguishable feature is a scar across the bridge of his nose.
