Egoyan, Arcand to be honoured at Los Cabos film fest

TORONTO — Canadian filmmakers Atom Egoyan and Denys Arcand will be honoured in November at the Los Cabos International Film Festival in Mexico.

The third annual festival, which runs Nov. 12 to 16, will feature screenings of Egoyan’s new movie The Captive and his 1997 film The Sweet Hereafter as well as Arcand’s latest An Eye for Beauty and his 2003 The Barbarian Invasions.

Egoyan, based in Toronto, was born in Egypt and raised in Victoria, B.C. and Arcand is a native of Deschambault, Quebec.

Both had their new films showcased at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Canadian films chosen to compete at the Los Cabos International Film Festival are Tu Dors Nicole by Montreal’s Stephane Lafleur, Indian Tales by Montreal’s Robert Morin and Violent by Vancouver-based Andrew Huculiak.

The producer of the best picture winner will receive $15,000 USD.

Jury members at the festival include TIFF director and CEO Piers Handling, Montreal producer Lyse Lafontaine, Laura Mackenzie of Halifax’s Atlantic Film Festival, and Alberta native Jaie Laplante, director of the Miami International Film Festival.
