Shooting in Saint-Leonard leaves one dead

MONTREAL – A 19-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Montreal’s Saint-Léonard borough.

Around 1:30 a.m., a passerby called police to say they heard gunshots near the corner of Langelier boulevard and Lacoursière street.

Police arrived to find the victim lying beside his car.

He had been shot at least once in the upper body.

The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he later died of his injuries.

“Investigators from the major crime unit are still on the site to meet with witnesses to get more information,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant with the Montreal police.

This is Montreal’s 19th homicide of 2014.

At this time last year, there were 22 murders.
