The annual fair at the PNE opens its doors this weekend

VANCOUVER – It’s been around for more than a hundred years, but organizers of Vancouver’s annual summer fair are hoping this year is the best one yet.

The Fair at the PNE opens its doors Saturday morning, and while many of the fan favourites will be there, like the roller coaster, Hellevator and, of course, the mini-donuts, this year the Fair, which is marking its 101st birthday, has made some changes.

For the first time in nearly seven decades, kids 13 years old and under will get in for free.

Parents will still need to fork over money for food and games as well as for the rides, including the fair’s newest one – the Atmosfear.

Trips on the giant swing, which takes riders more than 65 meters into the air at about 70 kilometers per hour, are included in the Fair’s ride pass.
