Via Rail train hits and kills pedestrian in Kingston, Ont.

KINGSTON, Ont. – Via Rail says a pedestrian has been struck and killed by one of its trains in Kingston, Ont.

Spokeswoman Mylene Belanger says a train travelling from Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal carrying 395 passengers struck the pedestrian around noon Sunday.

She says the incident happened just about 20 minutes east of the Kingston train station.

Belanger says authorities are holding the train while they investigate.

She says all trains travelling between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal have been stopped until the scene is cleared.
