VANCOUVER – Work began Saturday morning to build a new section of the Baden-Powell Trail.

Volunteers, along with district officials, cleared away logs and other debris to create the memorial connector.

When completed, a new section of trail will be created about one hundred metres away from Indian River Road, keeping hikers and walkers away from traffic.

David Boyer has advocated and raised money for the project, which is being done in the memory of his son, who took his own life after a lengthy battle with depression.

His family said he was happiest when he was out on the mountain path.

“The district and ourselves have been working on a private – public partnership to develop this,” said Boyer.
