Compuware buys software company dynaTrace for $256 million

DETROIT – Software development company Compuware Corp. said Wednesday that it has acquired privately held dynaTrace software Inc. for $256 million in cash.

DynaTrace makes software to manages application performance. Its customers include Macy’s and Amazon.com-owned online retailer Zappos. It is based near Boston.

Compuware, based in Detroit, offers products and services designed to help information technology professionals. It said the acquisition will add between $35 million and $45 million to its fiscal 2012 revenue and nearly $100 million to its revenue in 2013. The deal closed on July 1.

Compuware said “substantially all” of dynaTrace’s 180 employees will stay with the combined company.
