TORONTO — The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opened in the top spot at the weekend box office with $92 million, according to studio estimates.
The movie, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, did better than The Amazing Spider-Man, which debuted in 2012 with $62 million. It went on to earn more than $750 million worldwide.

The sequel, which has received a number of bad reviews, has so far collected $369 million globally.
Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 opened in 2004 with $88 million and eventually made more than $783 million.
The Other Woman was a distant second at the weekend box office, earning $14.2 million, followed by Heaven is for Real, which added $8.7 million.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier made another $7.7 million to take fourth place. To date, the movie starring Chris Evans has grossed $680 million worldwide.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the only movie to open in wide release on the first weekend of May.
