WATCH: Evacuation order for part of the Shuswap

NEAR SALMON ARM — An evacuation order remains in place in the Shuswap (updated 10 A.M. Friday) for seven properties near McIntyre Creek after a debris flow Wednesday afternoon, roughly 15 km from the TransCanada Highway.

“Uncertainty of debris stability, coupled with 10 to 12 mm of rain forecast for the Shuswap area by Environment Canada, were deciding factors in the decision to maintain the evacuation order until further assessment has been conducted,” according to a news release issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Thursday morning.

The evacuation order was first put in place Wednesday night for residents living 50 meters on either side of McIntyre Creek.

The debris flow damaged the Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road and remains closed Thursday as road work is underway.
