Winnipeg homicide victim had violent history

WINNIPEG  —  A shooting in the city’s North End has become a homicide investigation.

Police were told just after 5 p.m. Saturday a man had been shot.

Responding officers found a man who was conscious and breathing outside a home in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue. Officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived, sources said.

Geoffrey Oliver Reid, 27, died shortly after he was taken to hospital.

Detectives are now investigating at a residence in the 300 block of Alexander Avenue, where the shooting is believed to have occurred.

It’s believed Reid fled the home after he was shot and ended up at the residence on Pacific Avenue.

No charges have yet been laid.

“Our goal right now is to gather as much information with respect to what occurred and certainly who was present at that time,” said Winnipeg police Const. Jason Michalyshen. “We have  a number of people who have been interviewed and interviews continue as we speak.”

Reid was known to police. He was shot in 2010 after he allegedly pulled a gun on officers. He was arrested during a police standoff days later.
