Toronto is home to another new series about a deadly virus. Production is about to wrap on The Strain, an FX series from Guillermo del Toro about a team probing an outbreak that threatens New York City.

In Montreal, SyFy is about to start work on a second season of Helix, which follows a team of scientists investigating a mysterious disease outbreak.

Though not available in Canada, the NBC Universal-owned SyFy network makes a lot of its shows in the country.

The made-in-Montreal Being Human and Toronto-shot Warehouse 13 are ending their runs on SyFy and the network airs the made-in-Toronto series Defiance and Lost Girl as well as the Vancouver-filmed series Continuum and made-in-Nova Scotia drama Haven.

SyFy recently announced the mini-series Ascension will be made in Montreal.

In Canada, Helix, Warehouse 13, Defiance, Lost Girl, Haven and Continuum air on Showcase (owned by Global News parent company Shaw Media).
