Statistics Canada says the economy stalled for a second month in a row in August amid weakness in the public sector and wholesale trade.
The agency says real gross domestic product was essentially unchanged in August despite a rebound in retail trade that more than offset a decline in July.
Manufacturing output has also grown in five of the last seven months, while a solid month on the railways drove gains in transportation and warehousing.
Wholesale trade, meanwhile, fell 1.4 per cent in August as most subsectors contracted.
Work to prepare the 2026 census was also winding down in the month, driving widespread contractions in public administration.
StatCan’s early estimates for September suggest real GDP declined 0.1 per cent amid losses in manufacturing and mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction.
Anonymous is a village idiot. Doo dah, doo dah.
Rich and Ben are gay twins that enjoy bum sex with each other, sometimes a donkey is involved
Rich and Ben are the dumbest fugs on entire internet, 1st place awards each for DUMDUMS of eternity
cunada’s economy stalled a dozen years ago 🤕
Elbows up. 🙄
Whoops typo – meant “our once great country”
@Rich

Nobody is cheering for Canada to fail. We see it failing, understand why it is, and are trying to end it. People like you, on the other hand, stick your heads up your *sses, sing the praises of your dear leader, and actively enable the failure of our once great leader
I have a question for you: how many months of poor performance will it take for you to change your mind about him?
Is there a limit? I doubt there is.
Carney feels so amazing up my rectum.
I’m fairly convinced at this point that Ben and Rich share the same space.
Carney now has agreed to pay billions for Airbus plants to be built in France. There is a secret agreement for him to become the EU Central banker!
Barney could not fix England, now he thinks he can dance with Europe.
@anonymousbananabrain @503pm. Facts are only welcome when they agree with you.
Carney is finishing what Trudeau started we already have the worst economy in the G8 soon Cannada will be in full recession.
” Elbows up Suckers”
@anon. The ‘cult’ is with you progressives that just won’t look at actual evidence
Bloomberg states this was a surprise. What a joke. The PM is a disaster but the press keeps carrying water. It’s humiliating.
Didn’t Carney promise the best economy in the G7? What happened to that promise like all others.
Other than unimpressive rhetoric and platitudes, Carney has delivered absolutely nothing as PM.
Stalled again or still?
Conservatives can’t deal with Rich being intelligent and go on the attack. Just like they do with Ben or anyone else not part of their demonic cult!
The comments in this section illustrate the LPC paradox “ thought process “
Carney “ fast tracks” and approves a pipeline in AB for oil but then upholds the tanker ban and then deviates the pipeline further south at greater cost of course in order to support the tanker ban further
Nobody in the history of mankind was able to simultaneously have the pig in the pen and the bacon in the larder
Rich is captured by partisanship . Numbers don’t lie Canada is a f-ing train wreck .
Carney should park his ego and hubris and get a deal done with the USA. Canada will continue to decline if not. EU is not a salvation as Carney pretends it to be
Rich is “Ben”.
@Rich. “Polling” and economic success are not related. If Canada counties to underperform, his support will drop, like any politician.
@Rich.
Learn the difference between acknowledging a situation and offering solutions to fix it and denying the situation exists in the first stage then blaming it on someone else in the second stage
And try and grow up
I know it’s hard but make an effort
Canada has had negative or zero growth for about 16 quarters now ( 4 years) . This is not just a “Trump” issue. While the US GDP growth under Biden was about 3% , Canada hovered close to zero. This is the result of failed policies by Trudeau and Carney.
Mark Carney “Canada will have the best economy in the G7”.
March 2025
First off. The Cons are absolutely cheering for Canada to fail for misguided political reasons.
Second, we are not one of the worst economies in the G7. OECD data from before Carney predicted Canada would have the worst growth of the reviewed countries, but that was before Carney.
Third, Carney has been in for 18 months and is still the most popular PM that we’ve ever had in Canada. The Liberals are also polling way ahead. If an election were held today, they’d hold a commanding majority and the Cons would be reduced to a rump party mostly in Alberta. This does not support that view that “lots of people” have no faith in Carney. That group is better described as echo chamber Conservatives who believes that any Liberal or New Democrat is corrupt and bent on destroying Canada.
Fourth, as to job losses, the 100,000 that you like to quote includes Work Force Adjusted public servants and seasonal employment, which isn’t to say that those jobs are important. But it is to say that even with this loss we have created more jobs since Carney took over. Before August we actually created more jobs in absolute terms than the U.S. I don’t know if that’s still the case, but relative to the size of the economy, we’ve created far more jobs than the U.S. The data has to be put into context to be understood.
Fifth, with respect to so far promises but little action, again consider context. Carney has been pursuing diversified trade for 18 months. He’s had the success that I pointed out in my last post and that is continuing. Trade negotiations and shifting trade patterns take time. We’re on the right track.
Finally, as to incontinentia’s inane comment, I’m sure that your head would easily fit up your own ass if you were flexible enough to reach. I assumed that the cavernous space is why you’re incontinent in the first place.
Rich,
I did not vote for the Conservative. Having said that I don’t agree with Carneys Elbows Up approach to the Trump administration and this had yield led nothing to date. So as a neural Canadian, I am not allowed to critique what Carney is doing as per you. I think the more people speak up the better, regardless of party lines. For to long, Libs seem to want to follow their leader blindly off a cliff.
Ben and Rich, the two 69 Libbytwit dumdums, you can’t fix stupid
Jeeezzz no kidding. Most middle class workers knew this before August.
Canada is doomed.
@Rich You’re obviously smart guy but you only see and hear everything from Liberal side.
US GDP growth last quarter was 3.4% and Canadian GDP was 0.0% September and September we also lost 100.000 jobs
If Liberals are doing such a great job why we are one of worst country in group of 20
Carney has been in power over 18 months now and lots of people have no faith of him anymore and not all of them are Con’s . So far only promises and little action
I
I was going to dress up as a Liberal for Halloween, but my head wouldn’t fit up my…
Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher had these wise words, ” Socialism is great until you run out of other people’s money.” Europe and Canada are proving her right. The French people are demanding more giveaways from a government deeply in debt already. The nanny state only works in the short term. Eventually socialism kills the goose that lays the golden eggs. That dead goose was capitalism.
@Rich. We are not cheering for it to fail. Carney is failing and we are criticizing. Libs also backed up Trudeau till the day he resigned and it was obvious he was doing an awful job.
You Cons are unbelievable. You constantly cheer for Canada to fail. You constantly claim that Carney is corrupt without a shred of evidence. You expect that everything Carney pursues must come about immediately or he is a failure. None of you take changing circumstances into consideration. All of this in an attempt to denigrate the Liberals so that the Conservatives can take power. More of this below.
If any of you had an ounce of sense you’d realize that Canada doesn’t exist in a vacuum; we’re part of and affected by the broader world. That world includes a now unreliable trade partner that is trying to use harsh economic measures to force us to join their country. That world also includes the Iran war started by that the U.S. that has led to an increase in oil, gas and diesel prices globally. The increased costs resulting from the U.S. tariffs and U.S.-created oil, gas and diesel prices are increasing our costs and affecting our economy. You guys are either stupid or are willfully blind.
You also seem to not understand that the Canadian economy doesn’t turn on a dime or at the direction of the PM; we aren’t a command economy. I realize that Cons tend to prefer authoritarians, so the idea of a government that isn’t a dictatorship may be hard to grasp.
Stats Can shows that the economic is stalled – not falling – and that this partly because of reduced public spending. This would be due, in part, from the ongoing effort to reduce the size of the public service. Work Force Adjustment has put thousands out of work and they show up in the job loss column. Luckily, the vast majority of the people let go will likely find other employment because they have actual skills.
Beyond that, Carney’s efforts to diversify our export trade have already shown results. Our exports overall are up and our exports to non-U.S. markets have increased while our exports to the U.S. have fallen. This is not part of an exercise to eliminate trade with the U.S. Rather, this is an effort to rebalance our export trade 50:50 – 50% to the U.S. and 50% to non-U.S. markets. This is a reasonable goal that will reduce our dependence on the U.S. so that we can better withstand pressure from Trump or future unfriendly American Presidents.
I hope that you don’t find this difficult to grasp because while I can explain it to you, I can’t understand it for you. You’ll have to put a little effort in.
Finally, when are you guys going to be honest with yourselves and admit that your real problem is that the Cons lost the last Federal Election. I know that you were expecting a win based on a superficial reading of the polls. I guess you ignored the data showing that Poilievre and Trudeau were both well behind their parties and were dragging them down. As soon as the Libs replaced Trudeau with Carney the electorate shifted, which was predictable because no one wanted Poilievre.
The result, as we saw, was that the Cons lost and Poilievre lost his own riding. Since then, the same polls that you thought were valid before the last election are showing the Liberals, and Carney in particular, way ahead of the Cons.
The Cons are way behind with no path forward until you get a credible leader who is more centrist. Since that’s not likely to happen soon, you’ll have live with the fact that your not going to form government. Try to deal with it rather than throwing on-line tantrums, it would be more dignified for you.
Ben. No conservative says no to a better trade deal with the EU. But ceding sovereignty and calling it strengthening sovereignty is going to concern anyone who can actually think. Something you eschew because you have your purity test talking points. Enjoy your poverty and when dear leader says you’re living in the lap of luxury i hope your delusions hold
But our PM blatantly lies to Canadians in speeches where he says our economy is the best in the G7. The Press? No criticism… none. No accountability to the citizens. They exist only as tax slaves. What a terrible country
Remember folks, disastrous results like this are the result of liberal corruption, not incompetence. They know what they’re doing.
You are consistent @Ben. I’ll give you that LOL
As usual, only a couple of comments that make any sense; if you can do better Run for political office and you will discover things don’t always work out or it takes longer than you thought. In stead of rabbiting on and on, be flexible and vote for the best person, not because that person is a Liberal or Conservative
Our salvation doesn’t lie with Europe, who we already have free-trade with, by the way. Carney was counting on people forgetting that detail, which they apparently did. Our fortunes rise and fall with the US, that is how it has always been and will always be. To think otherwise is childishly naive. Trump will be gone in 2 years, let’s not destroy our economy in a vain attempt to spite him.
Stick a fork in it, Canada is done
Don’t you just love the elbozo comments being pleased with this?
Cutting off your nose to spite your face comes to mind
Typical low IQ reaction LOL
The only smoke I see is from Conservative ears when they read the polls.
This is to be expected in light of Trump’s tariffs and PM Carney has said this will be a difficult road. This is precisely why we are trying to get into a deeper partnership with the EU, which conservatives vociferously oppose. Not sure why.
And all the liberal voters chant amen into the smoke of carneys lies.
Canada is dead
Thank a liberal voter
“Removed”, yes, but replaced by who? Opposition parties may argue about details but they will not change the systems. The systems are working as designed. Voting will not change a thing. If you vote for any party that wants to change the systems you will be cut off from interactions with most countries in this world, have civil unrest and/or be invaded. Learn history. Learn about how changes have been made in the past. Unfortunately, most of the time it has been a bloody mess to bring about real change.

Canada’s economy is inflation. There is zero growth. Liberals are destroying this country and they need to removed.
Things are going from bad to worse in Canada and Carney and this liberal government are doing nothing about it
And Carney promised Canada would have the best economy in the G7.
Orange man bad.
I’m sure insufferable Ben will provide an endless stream of disinformation and deflection.
Losses in oil and gas extraction?
Yep, that’s Carney’s wonderful economics: Losing money on resources that are rising in value and are in extremely high demand.
Elbows Up
Lmfao
But Mark Carney…
Right, Ben?
Canada’s economy is inflation. There is zero growth. Liberals are destroying this country and they need to removed.
