If you wonder just how polarized Toronto civic politics has become, a recent tweet from mayoral hopeful Karen Stintz and the reaction to it speaks volumes. Stintz is being flayed on social media for a tweet empathizing with voters “like you.”

The reaction was swift and furious. It centred mostly on what users viewed as Stintz’s assumptions of lifestyle and level of class:
