Police charge 2 after finding machete, drugs in crashed car

HALIFAX – Police have charged two men after finding a machete and cocaine in a crashed car following a chase early Friday morning.

Around 2:45 a.m., officers in Lower Sackville spotted a car with stolen license plates and tried to pull it over. The driver fled, and officers chased the vehicle over Magazine Hill and into Burnside.

The vehicle crashed into a guardrail on Windmill Road near Victoria Road. Police arrested one man near the vehicle, but the other suspect ran away. Police dogs were brought in and the other man was located nearby.

Police say they found a machete, cocaine and marijuana in the car.

The men, 21 and 18, will be in court Friday to face numerous charges including fleeing police, possession of a dangerous weapon, dangerous driving and possession of drugs.
