Police found the victim suffering from severe injuries. He was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

Neighbours told Global News that there was a heavy police presence around the house on Deer Run Place for about two hours, starting at around 10 p.m. on Sunday. Global News

“Really sad, that’s terrible,” said neighbour Alexandra Guay. “I’ve had a chance to say hi, here and there to that family – and they seemed really friendly and really kind. That’s awful news.”

However, Guay said, this isn’t the first time there’s been a heavy police presence at the house.

“A similar situation happened in early October when there were probably about 14 cop cars here and they had heavy assault weapons and they told all of us to go into our basement and we stayed there for a period of time until things were resolved, but it was kind of scary.”

As part of the investigation, police say officers tracked a suspect to the downtown core. A man in his 30s was arrested just before 2 a.m. Monday.

Police say they had to shut down C-Train service as part of the investigation but service has since resumed.

An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for later this week.
