Severe storms pass through GTA, tornadoes reported near Kitchener

TORONTO — A line of severe thunderstorms caused some damage as it moved through the GTA on Wednesday afternoon, while a potential tornado has been reported near Kitchener.

High winds downed trees in downtown Toronto during the storm, which moved through just after 4:00 p.m.

Environment Canada says three possible tornadoes have been reported southwest of Kitchener and near Fergus.

Provincial police say there was damage in the town of Blandford-Blenheim, southwest of Kitchener.

There has also been damage to trees and bus shelters on the University of Waterloo campus.

A child also suffered a broken leg when she was struck by some tree branches while walking home on Pepperwood Crescent in Kitchener.

Hail was also seen earlier Wednesday morning during severe thunderstorms near Strathroy, Ontario.
