WINNIPEG – The Toronto Blue Jays have bought the contract of infielder/outfielder Ryan Scoma from the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The 26-year-old will report to the MLB team’s minor league spring training camp next month.
Scoma finished third in batting in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball last year with a .341 average in 81 games. He also hit four home runs, drove in 46 runs and was second in the league with a .443 on-base percentage.

Scoma was a draft pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft. He played three seasons in the Giants’ system. The Goldeyes acquired him from the Rockland Boulders before the start of the 2013 season.
“We are thrilled for Ryan that he is getting this opportunity with the Jays,” said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney. “He did a tremendous job for us last year and we wish him the best back in affiliate baseball.”
Scoma is the 62nd player in Goldeyes history to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization.
