Say no to GMO

Say no to GMO.

That was the message protesters in downtown Kelowna wanted to send on Sunday.

About 250 concerned consumers gathered at the Sails to protest genetically modified food.

According to organizers, the only studies testing the effects of genetically modified foods have been done on animals, and they believe the results are unsettling.

Organizer Heidi Osterman says people are demanding to have GMO foods labeled so they know what is in their food.

However, the government has already voted down two bills that would require GMO food labeling.

Osterman has organized a petition and once she has collected 1,000 signatures, she plans to bring it to the next elected official in the Kelowna-Lake Country riding.
