Super Bowl XLVIII wins on Twitter with 24.9 million tweets

TORONTO – Between the Seattle Seahawks blowout win against the Denver Broncos and Bruno Mars’ high-energy halftime show, there was lots to tweet about during Super Bowl XLVIII.

Users around the world sent a total of 24.9 million tweets between kick-off and Seattle’s 43-8 win, according to the social networking giant’s numbers.

That’s compared to the 24.1 million tweets sent during last year’s Super Bowl.

Online the biggest moment of the game was Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin’s 87-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the start of the third quarter, garnering 381,605 tweets per minute.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Harvin was also the most talked about Seahawk on Twitter throughout the game. Quarterback Peyton Manning took the top spot for the Denver Broncos.

As usual, the halftime show was a huge highlight of the Twitter conversation.

The end of the show, which featured pop singer Bruno Mars and rockers The Red Hot Chili Peppers, earned 229,533 tweets per minute. The Chili Pepper’s song Give it Away featuring Bruno Mars garnered 215, 540 tweets-per-minute.
