PELICAN NARROWS, Sask. – Two children are dead after a house fire in Pelican Narrows, Saskatchewan on Saturday morning.
A man, woman and their two children were able to escape the blaze however they told Mounties two boys, nine and 10, were unaccounted for and last seen in the residence. They were the nephews of the homeowner.
Two unidentified children were found in the residence on Sunday during an examination of the fire scene. An autopsy has been ordered.
The 10-year-old daughter of the homeowner sustained second- and third-degree burns to her body. She was taken to hospital in Flin Flon, Man. for treatment and has since been transferred to Winnipeg.
The cause of the deadly fire remains under investigation however police believe it was caused by an “internal flame source” which they suspect may have been a lit candle.
This is the second house fire in the last four months in Pelican Narrows that has claimed the life of a child.

On Sept. 24, 2013, 10-year-old Denasia Highway was killed after a fire ripped through her great-grandparents house.
Darryl Craig Sewap, 19, is charged with arson and criminal negligence causing death in that fire.
Pelican Narrows is approximately 500 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
