Child feared dead after house fire in northern Sask.

PELICAN NARROWS, Sask. – RCMP suspect the human remains removed from a burned Saskatchewan home to be a young child.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Mounties and the local fire department were called to a house fire in Pelican Narrows, Sask.

An elderly couple were able to evacuate unharmed and it was believed their 10-year-old great granddaughter had made it out as well.

The residence burned to the ground.

Human remains, suspected to be the young child, were later located among the burned debris.

An autopsy is expected to take place at City Hospital in Saskatoon.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
