Stannix attended Saint Mary’s University and enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in 2001.

The 24-year-old was killed in 2007 when the vehicle he was in struck a roadside bomb west of Kandahar City.

The name was chosen from a list of five finalists and Metro Transit says more than 12,000 people picked their favourite name.

It says 61 per cent selected the name of Master Cpl. Christopher Stannix.

The city released a list of all the names submitted by citizens during the naming campaign and the ones that were sent to the selection committee for consideration.
