The bodies of Amanda and Travis Trottier Votour, both 23, were found inside a home Monday. The two were tenants in the area and known to police.

Police would not confirm a Monday media report that a child was found alive inside the home.

“At 12:50 this afternoon we received a 911 call from somebody from the public. That person found two presumed dead bodies inside,” Gatineau police spokesman Pierre Lanthier said. “As soon as the first police officer arrived at the scene, they realized that there [were] two dead bodies on the ground, a man and a female.”

The bodies were transported to hospital in Hull, where doctors pronounced the man and woman dead.

Neighbour Andre Trottier said he heard what he thought were gunshots at around 1 p.m. Trottier, who said he has lived in the neighbourhood for 25 years, said he didn’t know the two people who died.

“It was like a gunshot. It was loud,” he said, saying he heard at least two loud “bangs.” Trottier added he thought the sound could have also been explosives from a near-by construction site.

Lanthier said it is too early to confirm anything that happened inside the house, and are not yet ruling anything out.

The investigation is ongoing, and cause of death remains confidential.
