‘Devastating loss of life’: Woman found dead at Ajax home, man in custody

WATCH ABOVE: A woman, 45, was found dead at an Ajax home late Saturday and a man, 35, has been taken into custody, police said on Sunday. Durham Regional Police Acting Duty Insp. A 45-year-old woman was found dead at an Ajax home late Saturday and a man has been taken into custody, police say.

Durham Regional Police said officers were called to a residential address on Hillman Drive, south of Bayly Street East and Shoal Point Road.

“What seemed to be an unknown trouble incident last night developed quickly into a devastating loss of life,” Acting Duty Insp. Rob Williamson told reporters at the scene.

“It was 11:05 last night that we received a 911 call for an unknown trouble at 14 Hillman Drive in the Town of Ajax. Officers at the scene located a 45-year-old female victim who had sustained serious trauma.”

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but she died at the home.

Williamson didn’t provide information on the nature of the woman’s injuries.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene and the incident is being treated as a homicide.

“It’s crucial to point out here that the victim and the male are known to each other,” Williamson said. No other suspects are being sought and there is no threat to public safety, he said.

The man and woman were the only people at the home at the time of the incident, Williamson said.

Williamson said officers wouldn’t be releasing information on the nature of the relationship between the suspect and victim pending next of kin notification.

He said the investigation, which is ongoing, is centred around the entire house.
