BAXTERS CORNER, N.B. – RCMP in New Brunswick say no charges will be laid in a shooting that killed a man late last year.
The Mounties say the Crown has determined there is no likelihood of conviction in Ryan Firlotte’s death because it can be argued he was shot in self-defence.

Three men, including the 31-year-old victim, were wounded after shots were fired at a vehicle on Nov. 10, 2012, in Baxters Corner, about 26 kilometres northeast of Saint John.
Police say the shooting occurred during an altercation with a 35-year-old man who had been assaulted earlier that day in the Saint John area.

All of the men were known to each other.
The Mounties recommended that prosecutors consider charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal negligence.
But they say the Crown decided not to proceed with any charges after reviewing case law.
RCMP say they agree with the Crown’s decision and their investigation is now complete.
