Barley, oats and soybean production were also up nationally in 2013.

The Saskatchewan government said overall production in the province was up 40 per cent from last year to a record harvest of 38.4 million tonnes, above the growth plan goal of 36.6 million tonnes by 2020.

“Saskatchewan producers deserve credit for the effort and dedication that went into this record-breaking crop,” Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart said.

“We set an ambitious goal for crop production and our producers proved they were up to the challenge.”

StatsCan said despite the late start to seeding, weather conditions over the summer led to the higher than normal yields.
