Toronto Fire Services says firefighters are battling a 5-alarm blaze at an industrial building Thursday morning.
A Toronto Fire spokesperson said the blaze started at around 10:18 a.m. at an industrial plating operation on Nashville Avenue, near Weston and Rogers roads.
Deputy Fire chief Jim Jessop told Global News firefighters were met with heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. A spokesperson said earlier that the fire has caused the roof to begin collapsing.
Everyone has been accounted for and is out of the building, Jessop said. There have also been no injuries, he added.
“Our goal right now is to contain the fire to the building of origin and protect the rest of the businesses,” Jessop said. He said the wind has caused some difficulties in battling the fire but that firefighters are equipped to deal with it.
A nearby school, George Harvey Collegiate Institute, is in a hold and secure. Nearby residents and businesses have also been evacuated. Train traffic and motorist traffic in the area has also been halted.
Jessop said he aims to have parts of the area reopen around the rush hour for less impact on the traffic.
