School in London, Ont. put in lockdown over bomb threat, police investigating

A west London, Ont., school was put in lockdown on Monday as police investigated a bomb threat in the area.

On Monday at around 1 p.m., officers were told about a bomb threat at a school on Springbank Drive.

Officers conducted a preliminary check of the building and said nothing appeared suspicious.

Police would not confirm the exact location of the school. However, the Thames Valley District School Board told Global News that a statement was sent to families and guardians of Woodland Heights Public School about the lockdown.

“London Police were called to investigate a threat to the school community,” reads the email. “Student and staff safety is our number one priority, and we work in close partnership with our local police departments.

Acting Sgt. Sandasha Bough said in an interview the school was still in a hold and secure situation by mid-afternoon.

“As I understand, there are buses on scene and they will be transporting the students home,” Bough said.

In the note, Thames Valley told families “there may be slight delays” in regards to students being sent home.

“Please be patient with school staff,” the statement read. “All anonymous tips are taken very seriously, and we have extensive protocols in place to handle all responses.”

The school board said supports were in place for students and staff.

Police said in an update around 5:30 p.m. on Monday that a thorough search of both the inside and outside of the building was completed by the canine unit and nothing suspicious was located.

The investigation into the source of the threat is ongoing.
