Winnipeg morning weather outlook: Monday, Oct. 23
Despite a warmer than usual start to October, it couldn't last forever. A cold front pushes into the province bringing rain and wet snow as we experience our first touch of winter later this week. Global News Morning weather specialist Drew Stremick has the details – Oct 23, 2023

We’ve had it pretty mild so far this fall, but southern Manitoba could be receiving its first taste of winter weather this week.

According to forecaster Scott Kehler of Weatherlogics, there are still a lot of unknowns right now, but a Colorado low is moving across the Prairies, and the general consensus is that snow is headed into the western part of the province later Tuesday into Wednesday.

“With temperatures still hovering near zero in the area, we’ll be dealing with a mix of rain and snow, so you’ll likely see the forecast shift around a bit as it gets closer, because we’ll have to see what the ratio between these precipitation types will be.”

Kehler told 680 CJOB’s Connecting Winnipeg that snowfall amounts will vary, with as much as 10 to 15 centimetres expected to fall on western Manitoba and as little as five centimetres in Winnipeg.

“If you’re in more western parts of the province, the chance of accumulating snow will be higher because the air will be a little bit colder there,” he said.

“So right now, I think 10-15 centimetres is probably a reasonable forecast.”

Kehler said the arrival of the white stuff is a foregone conclusion, but how long it will stay on the ground remains a mystery.

“As we get toward midweek, that system’s going to really strengthen and begin to bring that chance of snow, so we’re keeping a close eye on how that may play out,” he said.

“It looks like there will be some snow, and the question at this point is how much of it will stick?”
