Car Free Day Downtown New West returns to Columbia Street on Saturday, July 29 with live music, food trucks, beer gardens, and more!

Car Free Day Downtown New West presented by TransLink, is returning to Columbia Street, on Saturday, July 29, from NOON to 8PM. The event will take place along Columbia Street, between 4th Street and 8th Street, turning the street into a pedestrian paradise filled with vendors, food trucks, exhibitors and live music!

This FREE event features musical performances by Raincity, a Vancouver-based Glam-Rock band fronted by women on saxophones and vocals. Direct support includes Royal Oak, a four piece band that draws inspiration from pop-punk, EDM, 80s synth-pop and everything in between.  Other artists include Parlour Panther, William Chernoff Trio and more to be announced soon!

For family entertainment, we have Katie Brock, the fun loving children’s musician. Along with FREE face painting, a bounce house and roving entertainers in the Family Zone.  Other activities include FREE face painting, balloon art, and more!

The super popular DJ & Dance Stage returns this year and will be featuring breakdance battles and DJ sets all day! Don’t miss the epic breakdance battle finale at the end of the day.

Offering more than music, food and family entertainment, Car Free Day New West presents an opportunity for people to learn more about the future of transportation in our region.

“We want to encourage people to get out of their cars this summer and experience the region using transit,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “Car Free Day is a great opportunity for everyone to visit and experience the best of their neighbourhoods using transit, walking, and cycling.”

Getting to the Festival: Plan your trip using https://www.translink.ca/trip-planner. There will be a FREE bike valet by stage at Begbie Street, look for BEST Bike Valet and safely park your bike for the day. If you plan to drive, please utilize car share options like Evo, or car-pool with others. We encourage you to bike, walk, electric scooter or use Uber / Lyft. Parking is limited, and please be respectful of businesses and neighbours and don’t park in restricted areas.
