A local initiative is doing everything it can to get young voters to the polls.
Turn Up YVR has arranged for buses to bring people aged 18 to 35 to advance voting stations in Vancouver. Organizers say more than 4,000 voters have RSVPed, but they expect more people to show up this weekend.
Organizers have even lined up special musical guests–such as Dan Mangan, the Booms Booms, and Ryan Guldemond of Mother Mother–to play live on the buses, which depart from the Broadway-City SkyTrain station.
Organizer Caroline Carter said that while young people often engage in political discussions on social media, that doesn’t necessarily translate to trips to the ballot box.
“This initiative is really about not only driving voter awareness, but actually driving youth to the polls,” she said.
