SASKATOON – The trial of a man accused of murdering his wife will be delayed.

The three-week trial for David Woods, charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife Dorothy, was scheduled to start on Sept. 23.

On Friday, the Court of Queen’s Bench heard his defence lawyer, George Combe, had been fired by Woods.

The trial date has now been vacated and Woods will be back in court on Sept. 23 to ask for a court-appointed lawyer.

Woods was charged after the body of his wife was found in a culvert near Blackstrap Lake south of Saskatoon on Jan. 2. 2012.

She had been reported missing to police on Nov. 12, 2011.

It is expected the trial will now take place sometime in 2014.
