The original cast of the 1990s teen comedy Student Bodies reunited in ET Canada’s Toronto studio to reminisce about their behind-the-scenes memories, just in time for the show’s 20th anniversary.

“I think it wasn’t until recently, on Facebook when we put up the video mentioning that there might be a reunion that we realized just how many people watched the show,” said Victoria Sanchez, who played Grace Vasquez on the series. The video in question quickly gained over a million views, proving there was still a lot of love for the Canadian series.

“The show never talked down to younger people, the jokes ranged you could be 10 or you could be 18 and all of them had something for everybody,” Jessica Goldapple, who played Francesca “Flash” Albright said, explaining the popularity of the teen series. “And that’s what I think was special about the show.”

Produced in Montreal, the teen series centered around Cody, a high school cartoon artist who worked for the school paper, and his group of misfit friends.

Jamie Elman, who played Cody, admitted he didn’t actually put pencil to paper on the series.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“I did not draw a single cartoon on the show,” he said. “They had the sketch book and it was almost done and they’d leave me one line like that long that I could just…’Ahhh done!’”

Nicole Lyn, who played Emily, says the cast was just like “family,” a feeling Ross Hull, who played Chris Sheppard, echoes.

“You know some of the best moments were when I knew that I actually made them laugh for real,” said Hull, who has been a Global News meteorologist since 2014. “Those were the best moments. The screw-ups behind the scenes. The laughter behind the scenes for me are the best memories,” Sanchez adds.

But not everything was so lighthearted behind-the-scenes. What fans didn’t know was Hull and actress Katie Emme were actually dating in real life, but they broke up just as their on-screen counterparts got together.

“I didn’t know that they were together and Ross reached over and put his hand on Katie’s lap. And Katie took his hand and put it right off of her lap. And I was like, ‘What is going on! What a dog!’” Miklos Perlos, who played Victor, added.

Though the actors admit they’ve maintained a friendship over the years, Hull says going through their break-up was a “life lesson.”

“It was a life lesson for me though,” he said, adding, “It was very difficult.”
